Are You Just A “PRODUCT” On The Shelf?

Have you ever read a book only to realize years later how much it actually impacted you?

That’s what happened with the book I’m about to share with you today.

When I read it I found it interesting and very unusual compared to other business books
but I didn’t actually implement much of it in my work at the time…

2 main things really stayed with me though

I’ll share with you one of them.
Since I’ve already shared the other one in previous messages, I won’t repeat it


Here it is and it’s a quote that starts the chapter Set Goals and Build Commitment

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here? Said Alice.

That depends a good deal on where you want to get to, said the Cat.

I don’t much care where, said Alice. Then it doesn’t matter which way you go, said the Cat.”

– Lewis Carrol, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

I didn’t grow up watching Alice in Wonderland
but that quote stuck in my head for years!


Do you know why?

Because I could picture myself being Alice and asking the Cat where to go!
I could see myself at a crossroads having to make a choice and asking someone else’s the way….to NOWHERE!

Because that story was so relatable it’s imprinted in my head
It always comes back to me when I need it the most

That’s the Power of Stories.

They allow us to learn lessons through the character’s journey without having to experience ourselves the same challenges!

They deliver pure actionable wisdom that allow us to make better decisions sooner.

They can also inspire us to dream bigger by drawing in our mind a picture of a better life.


I never understood how much human beings needed stories until I started my own entrepreneurial journey.

I realized that what makes me different is my personal Story
That’s what attracts clients effortlessly because they can relate to it and resonate with what I can offer them

Without my Story I am just another “product” on the shelf.
When I’m just like everyone else on the market, clients will make a choice based on price, location, quantity and many other things that have NO direct impact on actual results. 

Look around you and notice how people and businesses that stand out always tell powerful stories.

Even ads on TV are meant to tell you a short story.
The story of what your life will be when you use the product!


Humans are NOT rational beings.
We’re emotional by nature. Always. 
And we learn, teach and connect through stories.

It has always been like this.
As we evolved, telling stories orally wasn’t enough anymore so we invented writing
From paper we moved to radio, then TV then the internet. 
My point is that if you want to differentiate yourself and stand out, be it in your career or with your business, you will have major success if you use the Power of Storytelling

I’ve personally used it to motivate my team when I was a COO and it worked very well!

Now I am using it to grow my Consulting business as well as my clients’ businesses.
